Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi Episode 2

As expected the second installment was also a mystery packed episode which left me pondering about so many things regarding the who-killed-who and who-knows-what scenario. There was so much in this episode that could be linked to the previous one because watching it was like connecting the dots. I was so mesmerized and couldn’t move an inch for a second because I was sure that even a single motion could ruin the flow. While making an analysis, a long array of aspects came across my mind that were interlinked to the drama. I would stop at some point and then relate it to the social norms of our society that the writer, Amna Mufti has tried to portray, and director Kashif Nisar has beautifully displayed. Yet again I would like to add here like my last review that a complete feel of the PTV era was there the whole time. This was worth mentioning here because the people I have yet come across are of the same idea. Elements of negativity including fear, anger, hatred, envy, lies, deceit and above all death (the on-spot murders) were found in this week’s installment. Some of these were presented openly and some were yet concealed and hidden under darkness. It seemed that the Nokrani’s role is somewhat significant in one way or the other. One, she knows everything about the Hawelli and also the secrets of Ghulam Fareed that he cannot escape her. Second she smothered Barey Mian Jee and put all the blame on Gul-e-Raana for being cursed to step in the house and taking Mian Yaqoob’s life. And third her attitude is way too much. She looks down upon the family members behind their backs. The mischievous maid is still on the move on flirting with Ghulam Fareed even after he has gotten married. Rather her feelings infatuation are increasing since she knows Ghulam Fareed’s secrets and now Ghulam Fareed is also bound to her or she would blurt it out. Well, speaking of the social norms of the society, it compels me to say that the value of women in our rural areas is still the same as it used to be many years ago. SHE means nothing to HIM. She is merely a “Pairo ki jooti “for the men in the villages and even for the feudal lords. This is because they value honor killing in the name of their so called Izzat. These feudal lords call themselves as ‘men of their words’ and we can clearly observe this scenario in Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi where there is a male dominant society and where women are of no worth. This is what I noticed in the scene where Nauman Aijaz said to his newlywed brideDeath was the main ingredient of this week’s installment that took place without any pause to think over. Two deaths occurred at the same time. Especially, the death of Mian Yaqoob related to the dream of Asiya who dreamt that owls were scratching and tearing away her father to death. This dream was connected to both the deaths of father and daughter where father Mian Yaqoob was murdered by the maid while the daughter Kaneez Fatima was murdered by Chacha Ishaq both simultaneously. These owls scratching Mian Yaqoob relates to the fact that one of his offspring his JIgar ka tukra was also put to death by someone closer to the family. In this episode I significantly noticed that these feudal lords give their power the most importance to as they could. They have this greed and lust for authority and when they get it they just misuse it for their own good forgetting all the other facts that could matter to them. The servants of the Hawelli play a key role in the story. They play a mediatory part in either breaking or bonding the family together. And if in situations where there are week bonds in a family these servants are then used for any kind of contentment. Sometimes these feudal lords using their servants fall into their own traps. These servants also have a nose in every pie and know the secrets of the house therefore they can’t miss a thing. The beautiful shots and the clean camera movements are praiseworthy which are the efforts of the DOP. Hats off to them as well!!! The scenic views of the village and the architectures have been captured in a very striking manner that every shot of the drama becomes an eye catcher. The mystical genre of this play is what I love the most. Things are said and delivered clearly yet they are hidden and camouflaged leaving the viewers thinking about the undecided endings of the episodes each week. The next episode is going to be more interesting to watch. Can’t wait until next week for another fragment of this gripping story
